Hemp extract is a concentration of all components of the hemp plant’s leaves, flowers, and stems. This extract includes cannabinoids, terpenes, plant sterols, fatty acids, flavonoids, and essential vitamins and nutrients. This liquid extract can be refined to contain only certain compounds from the plant.

Many of the beneficial compounds, such as cannabinol (CBN) and cannabigerol (CBG), add to the wholesome properties of CBD oil.
The main difference between broad and full spectrum is that broad spectrum is entirely free of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – all other cannabinoid molecules remain except for THC.
By still keeping all other elements and cannabinoids minus THC, broad spectrum CBD is also useful for the “entourage effect.”
Many of the beneficial compounds, such as cannabinol (CBN) and cannabigerol (CBG), add to the wholesome properties of CBD oil.
The main difference between broad and full spectrum is that full spectrum is not entirely free of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – and contains all cannabinoid molecules.
It is widely understood that Full-Spectrum CBD includes trace amounts of THC (0.3% or less). This is also known to be useful for the “entourage effect” which could possibly provide more benefits than broad spectrum CBD.
Calmly Rooted doesn’t sell or ship products directly. When you follow a link on our site and buy, you’re purchasing from the brand on the brand’s own website — so shipping times, delivery, and returns are handled by that brand, under its policies. If you need to return something or ask about an order, contact the brand you purchased from; they’ll have your order details. Our Returns & Refunds page explains how this works.

No. Hemp-derived CBD is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid.
The entourage effect is a theory researchers are still studying: the idea that hemp’s cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids may work differently together than they do in isolation. It has not been conclusively established.
The endocannabinoid system is the collection of cannabinoid receptors, endocannabinoids, and enzymes involved in the production and break down of endocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids are naturally occurring cannabinoids found within our body.
The two most studied endocannabinoids are anandamide and 2-AG. The two most studied cannabinoid receptors are CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are located mostly in the brain and CB2 receptors are located mostly throughout the immune system.

This will vary for each individual because CBD capsules are swallowed and therefore must go through the digestive system, some may need a longer timeframe to experience results. However, we advise taking CBD daily for at least 30 days to assess its full effects, since it can take time to build up in the body.
The brands we feature test their products with independent, third-party laboratories. Joy Organics, for example, uses CO2 extraction and publishes lab results for its products; other featured brands publish their own Certificates of Analysis. Our Lab Results page explains what to look for and links to brand results where available.
Taxonomically, hemp and marijuana are the same plant, with a genus and species name of Cannabis sativa L. They have a drastically different genetic profile though.
Industrial hemp is its own ‘variety’ of Cannabis sativa L. (the word ‘strain’ is not applicable), while marijuana can exist as Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, or Cannabis ruderalis. The major difference is how industrial hemp has been bred compared to a marijuana form of Cannabis sativa.
Typically speaking, industrial hemp is very fibrous, with long strong stalks, and has few flowering buds. Marijuana forms of Cannabis sativa are typically smaller, bushier, and full of flowering buds. However, some industrial hemp varieties in the USA are being bred to have more flowers and higher yields of phytocannabinoids and terpenes, such as the hemp used in the products we feature. The brands we feature source hemp grown for high CBD content and low THC, and we look for that sourcing transparency before we feature a product.
Generally speaking, marijuana has higher amounts of THC than Hemp. Hemp, on the other hand, has a high amount of CBD in most instances, and only trace amounts of THC.
Fortunately, the cannabinoid profile of hemp is ideal for people looking for benefits from the plant without the ‘high.’ Hemp does NOT have the psychoactive effects that you get from Marijuana.
Hemp has been used historically to make food, fiber, rope, paper, bricks, oil, natural plastic, and so much more.
The term ‘CBD oil’ refers to hemp-derived oil with THC levels below 0.3%.

Typically, a cool, dark pantry is the best place to store your precious CBD products. The back of a pantry allows for a consistently cool temperature that isn’t exposed to excess light.
Follow the storage directions on the product’s label. Shelf life varies by brand and product — check the date printed on the packaging, and when in doubt ask the brand.
Keep Out of Reach of Children
The terms are often used interchangeably, but “medicinal” often refers to use in traditional or clinical settings with a focus on specific therapeutic effects, while “functional” is a broader term used in the food and wellness industries for general health support.
Culinary mushrooms like portobello or button mushrooms are nutritious, but the popular functional varieties (Reishi, Lion’s Mane, etc.) contain unique, highly concentrated bioactive compounds (like beta-glucans and triterpenes) that could offer distinct health benefits.
They have been used for centuries—some for thousands of years—particularly in traditional Chinese and Eastern medicine.
Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps, Chaga, Turkey Tail, and Maitake.
Cognitive health and focus. It’s studied for its potential to support memory, concentration, and nerve growth factor (NGF) production.
Stress support and relaxation. Often called the “mushroom of immortality” or the “chill mushroom,” it is an adaptogen used to help promote calmness and better sleep.
Energy and stamina. It is popular with athletes for its potential to support oxygen utilization and ATP (energy) production.
Immune and gut health. It is packed with beneficial polysaccharides like PSP and PSK, which are known for their potential immune-modulating and prebiotic effects.
Antioxidant support. Chaga is rich in antioxidants and is traditionally used to support the immune system.
Beta-glucans, triterpenes, and antioxidants. Beta-glucans are studied for their role in immune support, and triterpenes (found in Reishi and Chaga) are linked to the adaptogenic properties of these mushrooms.
The most common ways are as capsules, powders (mixed into coffee, smoothies, or food), gummies and liquid tinctures.
It is best to consult a healthcare provider if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have an autoimmune condition, an upcoming surgery, or are taking medications (especially for blood pressure or blood sugar), as mushrooms can interact with them.
Mushrooms have tough cell walls (chitin) that are hard for the human body to digest. Extraction (using hot water or dual-extraction with water and alcohol) breaks down these walls, helping the compounds (like beta-glucans and triterpenes) be bioavailable for your body to absorb.
Fruiting body (the cap and stem) is generally considered superior as it contains a significantly higher concentration of beneficial compounds, particularly beta-glucans, compared to mycelium (the root structure) grown on grain.
